Library and Archives Canada Invites Public to Celebrate Canadian Film During Genie Week

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - March 27, 2009) - Library and Archives Canada (LAC) is screening this year's Genie-nominated short films and is offering a tour of its state-of-the-art Preservation Centre during the week preceding the Genie Awards ceremony.

The eight Genie nominees in the short film categories will be presented free of charge at 12 noon in LAC's Auditorium, 395 Wellington Street, Ottawa, from Monday, March 30, to Friday, April 3, 2009. Some of Canada's best live-action shorts and animated shorts with storylines that tackle thought-provoking issues will be featured.

"As key members of the Canadian film industry will be in Ottawa, this is a great opportunity to draw their attention to our unique and extensive film collection," said Ian E. Wilson, Librarian and Archivist of Canada. "I take a special interest in the preservation, acquisition and distribution of this most fragile medium."

The public and key members of the film industry are invited to tour the LAC Preservation Centre in Gatineau on Saturday, April 4, starting at 10:30 a.m. Reservations are required.
