After a distinguished career in Canada's foreign service, which took him to countries around the world, Ontario's Lieutenant Governor, the Honourable James K. Bartleman, is helping to bring the world to the province's Aboriginal communities.

Mr. Bartleman will speak about his initiatives to enhance literacy in First Nations communities when he addresses the annual meeting of the Elementary Teachers' Federation of Ontario (ETFO).

During his career, Mr Bartleman served most recently as Head of Mission to the European Union, and before that in Australia, South Africa, Israel, Cyprus, and Cuba as well as in Ottawa as Foreign Policy Advisor to then Prime Minister, Jean Chretien. Mr. Bartleman was born in Orillia and grew up in Port Carling. He is a member of the Mnjikaning First Nation.

The Elementary Teachers' Federation of Ontario (ETFO) represents 65,000 public elementary school teachers and education workers across Ontario and is the largest teacher union in Canada outside of Quebec.
