LIFE Event Raises $500,000 for Breast Cancer

WEST CALDWELL, NJ--(Marketwire - June 14, 2010) -  LPGA star Angela Stanford and her mother, Nan, were honored as LIFE Heroes at the 11th annual LIFE (LPGA Pros in the Fight to Eradicate Breast Cancer) event hosted by LPGA veteran and Golf Channel analyst Val Skinner. Held at Mountain Ridge Country Club on Monday, June 14, LIFE once again raised more than $500,000 in a single day, bringing the total funds raised to over $6.3 million.

In addition to Stanford, Skinner was joined by 26 other LPGA players, including World Golf and LPGA Hall of Fame members Nancy Lopez, Beth Daniel and Karrie Webb. Other top players included Brittany Lincicome, Christina Kim and bright new stars Vicky Hurst and Amanda Blumenherst. Funds raised benefit Susan G. Komen for the Cure®, the LPGA's official national charity, and the Cancer Institute of New Jersey (CINJ), a National Cancer Institute-designated comprehensive cancer center.

"I am so proud that my fellow LPGA players continue to support our efforts to drive education and awareness regarding risk factors, preventative measures and better treatment options for young women," said Skinner. "We have come a long way in the past decade but there is still such a long way to go. That's why it's so important to tell the stories of our LIFE Heroes like Angela, Nan and the others."

Each year, Skinner honors individuals who have demonstrated courage in the face of breast cancer and/or purpose in the fight against the disease. Those honored as LIFE Heroes in 2010 included Angela and Nan Stanford, Christy Bartlett (nominated by LPGA player Laura Diaz) and Crystal King.

"These women truly are Heroes and I'm proud to honor them," said Skinner. "They are living, walking, talking proof that breast cancer does not have to be a death sentence. Through their actions, they inspire me and so many others."

LIFE Event partners include: The Joe Plumeri Family, EmblemHealth, QualCare, Guy Carpenter & Company, MMC and Genentech. Other notable supporters are: Amy Perella, Assured Guaranty, C.R. Bard, The ACE Group, The Schonbraun Family Foundation, GUND, Lincoln Mercury and Cox Classic/Steven A. Cox Foundation.

Skinner founded LIFE after the loss of her friend and fellow LPGA golfer, Heather Farr, who died of breast cancer in 1993 at the age of 28. For more information on the LIFE Event or Val Skinner Foundation, visit www.valskinnerfoundation.org.
