Life360 Wins Jury Trial in Patent Troll Case Against AGIS Inc. and Kenyon and Kenyon LLP

No-Holds Barred Legal Strategy Provides Playbook for Start-Ups Facing Frivolous Patent Claims

SAN FRANCISCO, CA--(Marketwired - Mar 19, 2015) -   Life360, the leading Family Network, announced today that they received a favorable verdict in the United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida, (Case Number 9:14-cv-80651) in their on-going patent infringement lawsuit filed by Advanced Ground Information Systems Inc. (AGIS) and their counsel, Kenyon and Kenyon LLP.

On Friday, March 13, 2015 a Florida jury found no infringement on all four patents that were asserted against Life360.

"This win validates our theory that AGIS is a struggling company embracing troll tactics to monetize their patents with the help of their law firm Kenyon and Kenyon," said Chris Hulls, co-founder and CEO of Life360. "We were committed to fighting these meritless claims from day-one and breaking the calculus of the troll equation. I truly hope this win encourages other companies to stand up to abusers of the legal system and the predatory law firms that support them."

Just days after Life360 announced a $50 million Series C in May 2014 and signed a strategic partnership with ADT Security Systems to collaborate on the connected home, Florida-based AGIS filed their patent infringement suit against Life360. Under AGIS' interpretation of their claims, the alleged patents could impact any application that either shows a location marker on a map or connects a group of people using location-sharing capabilities on smartphones.

"This was a major victory not only for our client, but also for all start-ups looking for examples of how to wage a successful legal battle against companies like AGIS," said Kent Baldauf Jr., lead attorney for The Webb Law Firm. "Life360 hired us because the company was not interested in settling just to avoid legal fees and wanted to make a principled stand that sent the clear message it would not be a willing target for future litigation. We are extremely pleased that we were able reward the company's faith in our firm by delivering a non-infringement jury verdict."

"Our company policy is to never settle with trolls. We hope the example we set by decimating AGIS and its opportunistic attorneys will deter other extortionists in the future," Hulls continued. "We already have strong evidence our hardline approach is working. We've received two other demand letters since this suit was filed, and when they saw the extreme defense we mounted against AGIS, they went away."

Life360 is now proceeding on its public commitment to invalidate other intellectual property and patents owned by AGIS to ensure their ability to bring litigation against other start-ups with meritless lawsuits is further diminished.
