LifeLabs Medical Laboratory Services Celebrates Opening of New Laboratory and Patient Service Centre in Thunder Bay

THUNDER BAY, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - Oct. 30, 2014) - LifeLabs Medical Laboratory Services ("LifeLabs") today celebrated the opening of a new Patient Service Centre and laboratory in the new Health Services Centre building on Oliver Road in Thunder Bay. The Patient Service Centre and laboratory relocated from their original locations on Algoma Street and Arthur Street (respectively) and have been operating at their new location on the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre (TBRHSC) Campus since September 6, 2014.

"This relocation represents an investment by LifeLabs in Thunder Bay to support growth in the region and LifeLabs' continued commitment to provide efficient, reliable and trusted care to Ontarians," said Sue Paish, President and CEO of LifeLabs. "This is a prime example of the great things that can happen when hospitals, community labs and other healthcare partners work together to support patients in our communities."

The new state-of-the-art facility will enhance the quality and accessibility of laboratory operations and patient services in Thunder Bay and Northwestern Ontario. The new facility is conveniently located steps away from the TBRHSC, providing one-stop access to various healthcare services. Offering improved flexibility and capacity, the new laboratory is able to process test samples from all three Patient Service Centres in Thunder Bay and from other LifeLabs collection centres spread across Northwestern Ontario. With the opening of this new facility, samples from these communities will now be processed at the Thunder Bay or Sudbury laboratories, instead of those located in the Greater Toronto Area, substantially improving turnaround times and overall service to thousands of patients annually.

"It's an honour for me today to officially welcome LifeLabs to the neighbourhood on behalf of Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre," said Rhonda Crocker Ellacott, Executive Vice President, Patient Services at TBRHSC. "Having LifeLabs 'next door' not only provides an efficient and convenient way of offering lab services on site, it also strengthens the commitment to patient care that TBRHSC shares with LifeLabs."

LifeLabs is the community laboratory services provider for Thunder Bay with three Patient Service Centres spread out across the city -- on Arthur Street, Court Street, and now on Oliver Road.

"LifeLabs looks forward to a continued strong relationship with the TBRHSC, and all of our healthcare partners, as we demonstrate what working together can do to strengthen the delivery of accessible, high quality lab services for Ontarians," said Ms. Paish.
