LifeStorage Centers Participate in Toys for Tots

CHICAGO, IL--(Marketwire - November 18, 2010) - Lots of kids all over Chicagoland go without so much as one new toy during the holidays. And it's gotten worse with the current economic situation. That's why several LifeStorage locations, including suburban Libertyville, Aurora, and Addison and Chicago's Hermosa and Wrigleyville, are helping out their communities this holiday by participating in the Toys for Tots program. (The Little Village location is also participating in a toy drive that's not sponsored by Toys for Tots).

Toys for Tots collects toys and distributes them to thousands of children who may not get anything from Santa this year. To help out, just stop by participating LifeStorage locations during regular business hours between now and mid-December and drop off new, unused, unwrapped toys into the bins in their lobbies. LifeStorage collects all the toys, and then Toys for Tots coordinators pick up the toys and store them in central warehouses where the toys are sorted by age and gender. When Christmas arrives, the program coordinators, with the assistance of local social welfare agencies, church groups, and other local community agencies, distribute the toys to the less fortunate children of the community.

Toys for Tots was started in 1947 by the U.S. Marine Corps, which still coordinates it today. The goal of the program is to "bring the joy of Christmas to America's needy children," and they've been doing just that for over 60 years.

Marc Polizzi, the store manager at the LifeStorage Libertyville self-storage center, loves to participate in this program. "It's just such a great avenue to allow us to make a difference in our community each holiday," he says.

This year, the Libertyville location has even helped Toys for Tots solve a big problem: due to funding cuts, the program was having trouble finding trucks to deliver the toys at Christmas. So LifeStorage stepped in and arranged a deal between their U-Haul partner and Toys for Tots. Now the program will have FREE U-Haul trucks to deliver the toys this year!

When the holidays get closer, many LifeStorage locations will also be sponsoring Santa's Visits and free giftwrapping in our stores. Plus, LifeStorage will be offering discounts on 5'x5' units so customers can hide all those gifts from the kids until the big day arrives. Ho, ho, ho!
