Lifetime Networks Selects Pentaho to Support Advertising Processes

Leading Multimedia Company Selects Pentaho Data Integration to Provide Increased Visibility and Drive Advertising Sales

ORLANDO, FL--(Marketwire - February 28, 2008) - Pentaho Corp., the commercial open source alternative for business intelligence, today announced that Lifetime Networks, comprising the two top-rated women's networks, Lifetime Television and Lifetime Movie Network, has selected Pentaho Data Integration over other proprietary and open source alternatives to optimize its advertising processes and continue to drive growth in advertising revenues.

Like other leading multimedia companies, advertising plays a key role in the company's overall strategy and business model. Optimizing advertising processes to increase revenue requires a high level of visibility into pricing, planning, and inventory management. This information needs to be integrated with other critical systems as well as market and viewership information from Nielsen Media Research. This ensures that sales professionals can assess customer demand, deliver expected results to clients, and maximize advertising revenue.

Pentaho Data Integration was selected after a four-week evaluation that included traditional proprietary ETL tools like Informatica and BusinessObjects Data Integrator, as well as other open source alternatives. Pentaho Data Integration is running on a Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server, integrating data from packaged applications, custom applications, and Neilsen Ratings feeds into an Oracle-based data warehouse. The system replaces a homegrown data integration application based on Oracle PL/SQL, and is designed to create a "vendor neutral," centralized view of information to support business intelligence. The company plans to continue using BusinessObjects as their primary tool for information delivery to end-users.

A Pentaho Data Integration Subscription was chosen for a number of different reasons. Pentaho Data Integration's mature and intuitive interface was easy to learn for people who had prior experience with other ETL tools.
