Light Reading Launches Testapedia, the Ultimate Resource for the Test & Measurement Industry

NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwired - Sep 28, 2016) - Light Reading (www.lightreading.com), the market-leading online community for the global communications sector, today has launched Testapedia (www.testapedia.com). Testapedia is an ongoing research and development project that provides communications service providers (CSPs) and their technology suppliers with a comprehensive online resource covering the telecom test and measurement industry.

Testapedia is a strategic and much-needed industry initiative. CSPs and their technology partners are in the midst of implementing massive changes to networks and services, driven by the arrival of technologies like virtualization, 5G and ultrabroadband (UBB) networks. The need for robust and reliable test and measurement solutions has never been greater. Testapedia is a master resource for identifying the companies, products and services that are at the heart of telecom T&M. Founding sponsors of the Testapedia project include Ixia, Netrounds, VeEX and Viavi Solutions.

The core component of Testapedia is a comprehensive set of searchable databases covering the companies, products, industry organizations and people that are directly involved in defining and shaping the telecom test and measurement industry. The databases are tied together by a global taxonomy that identifies and defines the entire T&M ecosystem. In addition, Testapedia includes a research portal that provides registered users with executive summaries covering all test and measurement research reports created specifically for Testapedia, as well as relevant reports from Heavy Reading.

A key element of Testapedia is its People directory, a one-of-a-kind listing of communications professionals who are involved in the test and measurement industry. Inclusion in the directory is completely voluntary -- everyone who wishes to be included simply needs to opt in to be part of this unique worldwide community-building effort.

At the time of launch, Testapedia includes a rich set of detailed information, including:

  • Products, functions, processes and services that comprise a T&M taxonomy, grouped into categories
  • A growing list of vendors that are part of the global T&M community
  • Standards groups and associations that are involved with standards and practices important to T&M companies and their customers
  • A glossary of hundreds of terms pertinent to the telecom industry and its vendors worldwide

"This is an exciting time in the T&M field. Test tools, measurement equipment, monitoring systems, assurance and associated products and services have always been critical necessities for developing, spinning up and maintaining telecom networks," says Stephen Saunders, founder and CEO of Light Reading. "But now many of these products and processes are becoming quite literally integral in day-to-day operations. There has never been a better time to create a clearinghouse of information about this essential and dynamic field."

Testapedia is set up to be a crowd-sourced online resource -- CSP industry professionals are encouraged to add their insights and information to the Testapedia databases.
