LightPointe Introduces AireLink 60 Tandem -- Highest Capacity 60 GHz Radio Solution at Full Duplex 2.5 Gbps Network Throughput

AireLink 60 Tandem Solution Provides Breakthrough in Affordable, High Capacity, License Free Point to Point Wireless Transmission of Data and Digital Video

SAN DIEGO, CA and WASHINGTON, DC--(Marketwired - Aug 18, 2015) -  APCO tradeshow -- LightPointe, a leading manufacturer of point to point wireless bridges for high capacity data backhaul and video transmission, announced the introduction of the highest capacity 60 GHz backhaul radio in the industry, the AireLink 60 Tandem. Such radios are deployed by businesses, hospitals, school campuses, government agencies, and other enterprises to connect buildings wirelessly, and avoid trenching for fiber or paying for expensive leased lines each month. In addition, 60 GHz radios are utilized in 4G LTE networks for small cell and backhaul purposes, supporting mobile telecom networks. The 60 GHz frequency band is especially appealing in that it is license free in many countries around the world and 60 GHz radio solutions can be deployed without having to pay for potentially very expensive recurring government license fees. Compared to competing 60 GHz radio solutions, some transmitting data only in half duplex mode and at a network throughput of 700 Mbps or less, LightPointe's new AireLink 60 Tandem system transmits two full duplex and Gigabit Ethernet Channels with a combined 2.5 Gbps full duplex throughput. The AireLink 60 Tandem backhaul solution is shipping now.

"The AireLink 60 Tandem sets a new benchmark in affordable 60 GHz point to point radio technology and clearly places LightPointe as the leader in 60 GHz wireless solutions," said Dr. Heinz Willebrand, CEO of LightPointe. "It is the only 60 GHz wireless solution with nine levels of Adaptive Coding and Modulation, which provides superior system fade margin under extreme weather conditions when compared to competing products. The AireLink 60 Tandem is, without a doubt, the state of the art in 60 GHz backhaul radios -- and what I'm most proud of is that our engineers were able to accomplish this while also making the system extremely affordable for businesses and other enterprises. Compared to 60 GHz backhaul radios currently available on the market, the AireLink 60 Tandem solution provides the highest capacity, and customers can select different antenna options for maximum deployment distance and flexibility. Each side of the wireless link -- each building or tower location -- actually has two radios which are joined together using dual polarizations, which enables the radios to use just one antenna. In addition to saving space on rooftops and towers, this also enables the system to operate in 1+1 or 2+0 modes, providing redundancy or flat out off-the-charts high capacity transmission at up to 2.5 Gbps, the highest in the industry."

LightPointe is the only manufacturer which provides customers with a choice of all three leading point-to-point wireless bridge technologies: Millimeter wave, Free Space Optics, and Hybrid RF-Laser bridges, which the company invented and holds patents on. Demand for wireless bridges has skyrocketed due to businesses, schools, and government agencies wanting to own their networks and connect buildings without monthly fees -- and due to the exponential growth in broadband usage from smartphones, tablets, and other mobile devices. In addition, such wireless point to point radios are used to backhaul digital video from HD cameras in surveillance and security applications.

LightPointe's announcement was made at the Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials (APCO) show in Washington, DC.
