Lil Wayne, Glee Live! See Strong Debuts in TicketNews' February Rankings

VERNON, CT--(Marketwire - March 4, 2011) - Concert fans of all ages helped ticket sales for top performers dominate the Top 10 of TicketNews' exclusive event rankings last month, compiled from February 1-28.

Pop-country superstar Taylor Swift dominated the February rankings with a hefty 8.81 power score. The North American leg of her 2011 Speak Now Tour begins May 27 in Omaha, and tickets for many dates of the tour went on sale to the public during February.

Only months after his release from prison, Lil Wayne is the top debuting artist in February's rankings. The rapper entered in second with ticket sales for his upcoming I Am Music II Tour, which begins March 18 in Buffalo. Glee Live! also had an impressive debut, finishing the month in fourth. Thirteen cast members, including stars Lea Michele and Cory Monteith, will participate in the 2011 Glee Live! Tour that launches in Las Vegas this May.

Despite only having a few days of ticket sales early in the month, Super Bowl XLV was the highest-ranking sports event in February. The game finished at No. 8, ahead of the Monster Jam (at No. 10), New York Knicks (No. 13), and WWE (No. 20).

Events to Watch for March:

  • Bob Seger made his debut in the rankings this month at No. 12 despite only tickets to some of the shows on his upcoming tour going on sale thus far. Sales should improve even further in March when tickets for more tour dates go on sale.
  • The 25th anniversary tour for "Les Miserables" debuted at No. 18 in February, thanks to a plentiful U.S. itinerary for spring 2011. Considering the musical's large fan base, the anniversary tour should drive strong box office business in the coming weeks and months.
  • Major League Baseball's opening day is scheduled for March 31. Teams like the Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees should come out swinging in the month's events rankings.
