L'Ile du marais Inc. Opens its New Facilities in Sainte-Catherine-de-Hatley

Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions provided financial support for site improvements

SAINTE-CATHERINE-DE-HATLEY, QUEBEC--(Marketwired - Sept. 10, 2014) - Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions (CED)

The Honourable Denis Lebel, Minister of Infrastructure, Communities and Intergovernmental Affairs and Minister of the Economic Development Agency of Canada for the Regions of Quebec, welcomes the official opening of the new facilities and development of the L'île et le marais de Katevale in Sainte-Catherine-de-Hatley.

This project was granted funding in the form of a $28,722 non-repayable financial contribution through CED's Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund.

Quick facts

  • This assistance made it possible for the Regroupement pour la préservation de l'île et du marais de Katevale Inc. (l'Île du marais Inc.) to improve the hiking trail, an existing public recreational infrastructure, by making it safer and easier for visitors and emergency services to access the site.
  • The work included installing riprap rock on a section of the trail, renovating a bridge and adding 54 new pedestrian overpasses to those built in 2008. These improvements were made to the old main island trail that had been damaged by flood waters.
  • This project created about a dozen jobs, attracted more visitors and improved the safety of the site while contributing to the growth of the local economy.
