Limbo for Cannabis Clubs in San Jose Continues Until June 3rd

Council Members Delay Decision Until the June Elections

SAN JOSE, CA--(Marketwired - May 23, 2014) -  Tuesdays San Jose City Council meeting left many asking "What just happened?" In what has become standard practice for the San Jose City Council, the marijuana regulation topic was deferred once again. The timing of the delay is significant; it has now been delayed until the same day as the June primary elections.

"The failure to establish appropriate regulations has let down our community and is activating the CannaVote," said John Lee, the Silicon Valley Cannabis Coalition (SVCC) member and director of Control and Regulate San Jose. "The substantial turnout at the last City Council meeting was a demonstration of the reach of the medical marijuana community."

To help inform medical cannabis voters, the SVCC is announcing CannaVote.com, its cannabis voter awareness project. SVCC is urging San Jose residents to vote on June 3rd, then come to the 1:30pm council meeting at city hall.

This November it will have been over five years in which the San Jose City Council has failed to properly address the medical marijuana issue. All four of the Council Members running for mayor, Rose Herrera, Sam Liccardo, Madison Nguyen and Pierluigi Oliverio share responsibility for the current problems related to cannabis clubs in San Jose. Each were council members when medical marijuana was first presented in 2009. None have shown the leadership to address this issue in a reasonable way.

The issue of adopting an ordinance allowing medical cannabis clubs in San Jose was first in front of the rules committee on November 4th, 2009. The medical marijuana community has been asking for regulations ever since. The lack of regulations has created confusion for cannabis club operators and law enforcement alike, creating an unpredictable environment for the entire San Jose community.

"We need politicians who get things done. This is our opportunity to show local officials the extent of the CannaVote. We are urging all Medical Marijuana users & supporters to vote on June 3rd, then come down to San Jose City Hall," said Dave Hodges, founder of the All American Cannabis Club (A2C2) and SVCC Member. "CannaVote will have a significant impact on the June elections."

CannaVote.com will offer a San Jose voter guide as well as other voter resources. To get involved, please attend the SVCC meeting this Wednesday, May 28th, 2014 at 3pm.
