Did you know that Canada's number one salad dressing product actually comes in a box? ET TU Caesar Original Salad Kit is the largest selling salad dressing item in the entire country, according to recent ACNielsen data. And now, Caesar lovers can enjoy their favourite salad with a twist, in ET TU's new Caesar Vinaigrette Salad Kit.

"We had a hunch several years back that Canadians just can't get enough Caesar salad," said Doug Woolsey, who, with his wife Linda, founded Markham, Ontario-based Linsey Foods, makers of the ET TU Caesar Salad Kits, in 1988. In fact, according to NPD Canada, the research company that tracks restaurant sales and trends in Canada, Caesar salad represents 22% of all salads consumed in Canadian restaurants in 2006. Ten years ago, in 1996, Caesar Salad represented only 8% of all salads consumed in Canadian restaurants. This is almost a three-fold increase in 10 years. After decades in the restaurant business, the Woolseys' motivation to develop the salad kits was to, "Give the people what they want." Very un-Caesar-like, wouldn't you say? Hey, they're Canadians.

In the 70s and 80s, the couple owned a series of popular Toronto-area eateries, including North America's first Hard Rock Cafe. They put the first salad kits together as a favour to quell the constant requests of patrons to take the Woolseys' signature Caesar home. Before they knew it, they were introducing the first salad kit to the food industry. ET TU Salad Kits include all the ingredients needed to make a complete, restaurant-quality salad except for the lettuce. While ET TU's original salad kit is the celebrated creamy-style Caesar, it wasn't long before consumer trends called for a "Light," lower-fat Caesar kit.

Today, ET TU expands its tasty Caesar offerings further, with its new Caesar Vinaigrette Salad Kit.

Featuring a bright, zesty Caesar dressing, crunchy Calabrese croutons and a blend of shredded Parmesan and Romano cheeses, ET TU's Caesar Vinaigrette kit brings a pampered bistro taste home. Simply combine the kit ingredients with fresh Romaine for a mouth-watering variation on the classic Caesar salad, or follow their website recipes for such Italian specialties as rustic Tuscan-style bread salad or warm frutti di mare salad.

Linsey Foods' originality didn't end with its innovative products. Determined to set his product apart in grocery stores, Woolsey went beyond the salad dressing shelves and acquired selling space for his ET TU Kits in the highly desirable produce department (right next to the lettuce and greens his products dress). This clever merchandising created another typical Linsey win-win -- ET TU sells more product and the stores sell more produce.

"We have heard it over and over again, nobody can believe that something this good comes out of a box", says Woolsey, "but it is that good, and it does comes in a box". Each box contains individually pouched ingredients to make a perfect Caesar each and every time.

The produce section is where you will most often find the new ET TU Caesar Vinaigrette Salad Kit, which is launching this fall nationwide at supermarkets, grocers and some specialty stores. Each kit makes two entree or six side-salad servings, and has a suggested retail price of $2.79 - $3.49.

In addition to the Caesar trio, ET TU makes four other Salad Kit varieties and three Dessert Kits. Other new products that use fresh produce are in development to satisfy growing consumer demand for delicious, easy-to-make meals and desserts. The Canadian brand has found its way onto the tables of consumers globally with a growing business in the U.S., Australia, Japan and Europe.
