Liposuction Can Offer Permanent Results, Reveals Corona Plastic Surgeon

Dr. Christopher Chung of Renaissance Aesthetic Surgery Discusses Liposuction's Long-Lasting Effect and Provides Tips to Optimize the Long Term Outcome

CORONA, CA--(Marketwired - Dec 29, 2015) - Liposuction is designed to achieve targeted fat reduction in a localized area. Dr. Christopher Chung, a plastic surgeon in Corona, explains that the procedure permanently removes fat cells from the treated region, typically providing long-lasting effects. He adds, however, that weight gain and loss over time can affect the outcome, which is why it is important to maintain a stable body weight to help ensure enduring results.

Fat cells increase and decrease in size in response to weight gain and loss, Dr. Chung explains; they do not multiply or disappear. When liposuction reduces fatty tissue from the flanks, hips, stomach, or another area, he says the fat cells removed will not spontaneously regenerate. Dr. Chung notes that patients should understand that if they gain weight, the fat cells in surrounding areas could expand and move into the treated region. Or, he adds, they may enlarge and remain in the same location. If either event occurs, Dr. Chung says the body contour may be affected. He advises patients to eat healthy, stay active, and maintain a stable weight to achieve the longest-lasting liposuction results possible.

Ultimately, Dr. Chung emphasizes that liposuction can be an excellent technique to address stubborn pockets of fatty tissue in "trouble spots" -- areas that resist the benefits of diet and exercise. While liposuction can be performed on multiple regions, he states that the procedure is not intended to be a weight loss method, and individuals who desire more comprehensive fat reduction may be better suited for diet and exercise, weight loss surgery, or another approach. If problematic fat accumulations still persist after these efforts, he then encourages patients to seek a board certified plastic surgeon with extensive experience with liposuction to determine if treatment may be right for them.
