SAN FRANCISCO, CA--(Marketwired - September 04, 2013) - LittleCast (www.littlecast.com) today became the first company to offer video creators a platform to sell their works directly to consumers through their own Facebook pages and in apps for iOS and Android mobile devices. People can now buy and play videos from their favorite producers while on Facebook without leaving the social network, and securely download purchases to mobile phones and tablets for viewing on the go.
The company also announced a $2 million seed investment from a group of technology and entertainment investors.
LittleCast is a new, distributed peer-to-peer ecommerce platform for video. Rather than aggregating content in one centralized location, LittleCast enables video producers to become their own points of purchase, selling where they're closest to their audience from inside Facebook. Videos are streamed to desktops and securely downloaded to mobile devices via native Android and iOS apps. As users purchase producers' videos, the content becomes available for purchase from the buyers' news feeds and timelines to people of similar interests.
LittleCast is the first platform to make selling video directly to an audience a viral function through a tight integration with Facebook and in-app purchases. The platform was built explicitly to help producers get and grow audiences and revenues through an in-line media player and Facebook Canvas app, Android and an iOS LittleCast app which allows video purchases outside of iTunes.
Producers simply upload their videos once to LittleCast.com, set the price they want to receive for each sale and begin taking payments. LittleCast immediately places a media player directly into the purchaser's news feed where their friends and fans can also see a 30 second preview of the content and make a purchase. Standard and HD video upload lengths range from less than a minute to three hours.
LittleCast handles all distribution and multiple channel payment processing, including Facebook Payments, Apple In-App-Purchase, credit cards and PayPal. Delivery to any device is assured through automatic transcoding to multiple formats for each native app. A detailed analytics and engagement dashboard is provided for producers to manage distribution, customer engagement and revenues.
"By building a direct paid channel into Facebook and mobile, LittleCast is distributing our producers' videos where consumers spend time and attention today," said Amra Tareen, CEO and co-founder of LittleCast. "Engaging the viral power of Facebook and the immediacy of mobile lets consumers enjoy a more trusted way to discover their videos."
Conceived and founded by Stephen Ackroyd, CEO of Touch Adventures, a technology studio that builds companies, LittleCast is co-founded by two former venture capitalists and repeat entrepreneurs. Amra Tareen, who founded the citizen journalism site Allvoices, is LittleCast's CEO, and Pascal Levensohn, who is the CEO of Generation Strategic Advisors LLC (GSA) and the Managing Partner of Levensohn Venture Partners LLC (LVP).
