Live Webcast: Anterior Cervical Discectomy Procedure

Artificial Disc Replacement Procedure Improves Mobility and Helps Prevent Further Surgery -- From PinnacleHealth February 18, 2009 at 7:00 PM EST

HARRISBURG, PA--(Marketwire - February 3, 2009) - PinnacleHealth -- Spinal surgeons at PinnacleHealth are using artificial disc replacement to not only restore natural spinal motion, but also as a means of preserving the at-risk vertebrae surrounding the injured area. "With this new technology, we're able to put in an artificial disc that can allow natural motion," explains Dr. William Beutler, neurosurgeon at PinnacleHealth. "In other words, I try and replicate the disc that I just took out. This artificial disc has the added advantage of slowing degeneration of the discs immediately next to the affected area."

On Wednesday, February 18 at 7:00 p.m. EST, PinnacleHealth will present an OR-Live webcast of an Anterior Cervical Discectomy. Dr. William Beutler will perform the procedure while Dr. Walter Peppelman moderates the event. "The whole point behind this technology is that by reducing wear on adjacent discs, you reduce or eliminate the need for further surgery down the road," adds Dr. Peppelman. During the program viewers will have the opportunity to ask pertinent questions by participating in a live email forum with the surgeons.
