LiveJournal Expands With Launch of LJ Media

Newly Created Publishing Group Transforms Existing LiveJournal Communities Into Media Sites

SAN FRANCISCO, CA--(Marketwire - Feb 15, 2012) - LiveJournal, the community-based social network, today unveiled LJ Media, a new social publishing group created to transform select LiveJournal communities into media sites. With this initiative, LiveJournal is mining its abundance of user-generated content to maximize the way visitors discover rich and engaging communities on the site. Those LiveJournal communities invited to join LJ Media receive promotional marketing and special technical features, as well as a custom redesign to help them succeed as a media site.

Celebrity gossip hub Oh No They Didn't (ONTD) kicks off the LJ Media initiative along with six other communities: Anything Diz (Disney celebrity gossip), ONTD Political, Arama They Didn't (Japanese pop culture), Craftgrrl (crafting and DIY), VaginaPagina (women's health) and ONTD Games (video games). Additional communities in the LJ Media pipeline focus on popular themes such as LGBT, food, cats and fashion. LiveJournal expects 40 to 50 LJ Media sites by the end of 2012.

LiveJournal communities that accept the invitation to become a part of LJ Media are offered marketing support through homepage exposure, advertising, social media and promotions. Additionally, LJ Media provides these communities with special technical advantages such as custom widgets that highlight featured posts and top commenters. LJ Media communities can also elect to participate in an affiliate revenue program.

Currently ONTD is the most popular community on LiveJournal with more than 3 million monthly visitors, and it is the model upon which LJ Media was created. In early 2010, community owner Brenden Delzer joined LiveJournal as a full-time staff member, and is currently editor in chief of this celebrity gossip site.
