LIVESTRONG® Launches New Facebook® Page, Celebrates 15 Years of Fighting for Cancer Survivors

Facebook Page Brings the Story of Survivorship to Life in New, More Interactive Format

AUSTIN, TX--(Marketwire - Feb 29, 2012) - LIVESTRONG® is proud to be among the first nonprofits to launch a Facebook Page with new features like cover photo and Page timeline. The new format allows cancer survivors and supporters to interact with LIVESTRONG and answer the question: "Where were you, when?" The innovative Page timeline feature will help visitors learn more about the LIVESTRONG story, and more importantly, understand the story of 28 million cancer survivors worldwide.

"LIVESTRONG is a community of cancer fighters and survivors, and Facebook is a fantastic place to come together online to live, to share, to encourage and to support," said Doug Ulman, cancer survivor and LIVESTRONG president and CEO. "When you see our journey as an organization laid out in this new format, you experience the emotion of each milestone -- each tragedy and each triumph -- in a whole new way."

Fifteen years ago, LIVESTRONG founder and chairman Lance Armstrong was diagnosed with advanced testicular cancer and pledged to fight and live as a survivor. Following his diagnosis, he created the Lance Armstrong Foundation -- now known publicly as LIVESTRONG -- to serve fellow survivors.

Today, LIVESTRONG is a leading global nonprofit that leverages innovative tools to build community, interact with survivors and provide resources and services to people living with cancer. LIVESTRONG uses its Facebook Page as a platform to communicate a message of hope and survivorship with more than 1.5 million people.

"Social media has radically changed the way LIVESTRONG connects a global community of survivors and supporters with each other and with the resources to fight cancer," said Travis Rimel, LIVESTRONG's new media director. "The innovative timeline layout for our LIVESTRONG Facebook Page will help us better tell our story, reach more survivors and involve more people in the fight against cancer."
