LIVESTRONG® Partner Movember Donates $2.6 Million to the Global Fight Against Cancer

AUSTIN, TX--(Marketwire - May 20, 2011) - LIVESTRONG is proud to accept a $2.6 million donation for the global fight against cancer from Movember, following their most successful campaign to date. Movember, an international charity movement engaging men to grow moustaches every November to raise awareness and funds for men's health and cancer affecting men, has seen tremendous growth since its inception in 2003. What began as a purely social event in Australia, has since raised more than $78 million in 2010 and $178 million total with more than one million participants worldwide. LIVESTRONG is the brand of the Lance Armstrong Foundation, created in 1997 by the cancer survivor and champion cyclist to serve people living with cancer and empower communities to take action.

"Movember is single-handedly changing the face of men's health and they're doing it in an amusing, creative way that really resonates with people," said Phil Hills, LIVESTRONG Executive Vice President. "Movember has become one of our strongest partners and we're truly honored to receive these funds."

"On Movember 1st, men start with a clean-shaven face and then for the rest of the month they do their best to grow a moustache that they're proud of," said Movember's USA Manager Donny Killian IV. "These men and their moustaches -- and the women who support them -- participate not only in fundraising efforts but become walking, talking billboards and raise awareness by prompting private and public conversation around the often ignored issue of men's health."

Movember and LIVESTRONG are working together to identify and create programs for men that address their specific emotional and practical needs when they are faced with the agonizing news that they have cancer. This will be a comprehensive, national program with local components that will help men navigate the best treatment options, support them through treatment and help their quality of life post-treatment.
