Local Author's Novel About Great Smoky Mountains National Park Chosen to Represent Tennessee at National Book Festival

NASHVILLE, TN--(Marketwire - September 15, 2009) - Local children's author Kristin O'Donnell Tubb's debut novel, "Autumn Winifred Oliver Does Things Different," was recently selected by the Tennessee State Library to represent the State of Tennessee at the 2009 National Book Festival.

The National Book Festival, which is hosted by the Library of Congress and takes place September 26, 2009 on the National Mall, includes a Pavilion of States, at which state libraries showcase their literary cultures.

"All who read ['Autumn'] agreed that it was a great choice to represent Tennessee," said Lindsey Wesson, Continuing Education Coordinator at the Tennessee State Library and Archives. "It is a fun, poignant, and informative book about a very important part of our state's history."

"Autumn Winifred Oliver Does Things Different," released by Delacorte Press/Random House Children's Books in 2008, is set in 1934 Cades Cove, Tennessee. It is a middle-grade historical fiction account of the beginnings of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park as told through the eyes of 11-year-old Autumn.

Ten thousand people attend the National Book Festival annually. This year's featured authors include Judy Blume, John Grisham and John Irving.

Tubb is a native of Athens, TN and now resides in Arrington, TN. She often speaks to local schools regarding the history of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.
