Local Bank Supports House Raffle to Benefit San Mar Children's Home

Event Gains National Media Attention

LANCASTER, PA--(Marketwire - March 12, 2008) - Hagerstown Trust Company, which is part of the Fulton Financial Corporation (NASDAQ: FULT) family of banks, is helping people in need in its local community, and word is traveling far and wide -- in fact, it's traveling across the country and around the world!

The bank has joined with other partners in the Washington County, Maryland community to support a house-car-cash raffle being held by San Mar Children's Home in Boonsboro, MD. The raffle benefits the Children's Home, a nonprofit organization that provides residential care for at-risk adolescent girls who have been abused, neglected or have behavior problems.

San Mar has already sold nearly 6,000 raffle tickets at $100 each to people who would like the chance to win a fully restored farmhouse on 3.2 acres in Washington County, Maryland. Other prizes in the raffle are a 2008 Toyota Camry, a Persian rug, a Statton furniture set and a cash prize of $1,000. The maximum number of tickets that will be sold is 7,000.

Raffle orders are now in hand from every state in the union -- from Spearfish, South Dakota to Jacksonville, Florida; from Bangor, Maine to Las Gatos, California, and hundreds of cities in between. American soldiers serving in Afghanistan and Iraq and individuals in Canada and Panama have also ordered tickets.

Cynthia Moler, a leading realtor in the mid-Atlantic region, teamed up with homeowners Karen Crawford and Dennis Kelly to raffle the home, which is valued at $390,000. Moler proposed the idea to the board of directors of San Mar, and while there was excitement, there were many questions and some obvious concerns about how to make the raffle a success.

That's where Judy Greenwald stepped in. Greenwald, a senior vice president at Hagerstown Trust, is a member of San Mar's board. She was able to provide valuable information, and by the end of that initial board meeting, had already arranged to set up the needed bank accounts and process telephone and online raffle ticket orders.

After a major news outlet ran a story that the Hagerstown, Maryland housing market had experienced one of the largest declines in the nation, national media began to descend on the local community, and would-be ticket purchasers began to contact San Mar from all over the nation and other parts of the world. Since the winners are being selected tomorrow night, bank staff members have stepped in and are on site at San Mar, volunteering their time to take calls and help process online transactions.

After paying expenses, which include paying for the house, organizers hope to raise more than $100,000 for San Mar. "San Mar is celebrating its 125th anniversary this year and we have been a customer of Hagerstown Trust since the bank was founded 75 years ago," said Bruce Anderson, executive director of San Mar. "At the outset, this exciting project seemed a bit bigger than we could handle. However, it turned out to be amazingly easy. The support we have received from Hagerstown Trust underscores how important it is to have a long-term relationship with a local bank that understands us and understands our community. Hagerstown Trust immediately jumped in to help us, and the end result is that San Mar will be able to serve more of our community's children in need. That's a wonderful feeling."

Raffle tickets can be ordered through March 13, 2008 at, where website visitors can also take a virtual tour of the home. The winners for all five prizes will be chosen at San Mar's 125th anniversary celebration on Thursday, March 13 at the Beaver Creek Country Club in Washington County. Winners do not need to be present at the time of the drawing.

More information on the raffle is available by calling Dan Day, Director of Development at San Mar, 301-733-9067, ext. 101.
