Local Businesses Grow With the New Square Market This Holiday Season

Square Announces "Win Your Wish List" for Buyers on MKT.com

SAN FRANCISCO, CA--(Marketwired - Nov 25, 2013) - Small and mid-sized businesses earn up to 20-40% of their annual sales during the holiday shopping season. As online sales increase -- by as much as 15% this season -- Square's powerful new ecommerce platform, Square Market  helps local businesses meet new customers where they couldn't before: online.

Square Market allows buyers to shop neighborhood businesses, from a local boutique in Minneapolis, Minnesota, to a printmaker in Austin, Texas, online. With local store owners adding thousands of unique items each week, buyers have the opportunity to shop locally like never before.

Square Market enables Square's growing merchant base to open a web store with the flip of a switch, no extra fees or web development skills needed.

Lauren Matsumoto of Mitsymoto Designs uses Square for online and in-person sales for its ease of use for her and her customers. "There's nothing better than knowing you're selling on a site you'd personally want to shop for the holidays," she said.

To attract customers for online sellers during the season, Square launched "Give with Character," a campaign to encourage buyers to find gifts for their friends and family from local businesses on Square Market. The campaign includes the #MKTHoliday contest* for buyers to create their own wish list of unique Square Market items and share it on Twitter with #MKTholiday for the chance to win up to $1000 worth of the gifts on their list -- courtesy of Square.

Follow "Give with Character" throughout the coming weeks on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and Youtube with #MKTholiday or visit www.MKT.com/holiday.
