Local CAs Unveil $37,500 Endowment for UOIT Accounting

Presentation at annual District Association dinner in Oshawa Nov. 20

OSHAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Nov. 19, 2007) - The Central Ontario District Association of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario will announce a new $37,500 award for University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT) Accounting Program students at its annual dinner in Oshawa on November 20. The award is open to students, living in the Central Ontario Region around UOIT and Durham Region, who are interested in studying to become a Chartered Accountant (CA).

The award is possible thanks to the generous donation of $12,500 from the District Association membership and matching funds, supplied on a two-to-one basis by the Ontario government. It will provide approximately $1,500 per year in funding for the selected CA student and will be given annually to a fourth year accounting student with a greater than 3.0 average who is planning to pursue a career as a CA.

"The need for Chartered Accountants is strong and, thanks to a combination of demographic trends and the increasing complexity of our business environment, growing all the time," notes Brian Hunt, FCA, President and CEO of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario. "The Central Ontario District Association and UOIT are to be commended for helping to bring more young people into this exciting and increasingly important profession."

Media are invited to attend this event.
