Local Charity to Participate in Calgary Scotiabank Marathon

CALGARY, ALBERTA--(Marketwired - March 26, 2014) - On Sunday, June 1, local charity Queen Esther Education Foundation will participate in the 50th anniversary of the Calgary Scotiabank Marathon.

"We are very excited to take part in this charity, and the fact it's the 50th anniversary makes it that much more exciting," says Marija Pavkovic-Tovissi, one of the founders of Queen Esther Education Foundation, a local charity focused on improving the lives of immigrants and newcomers to Canada through education assistance such as ESL training and bursary application assistance.

Queen Esther, which first participated in the event last year, is looking to honour the 50th Anniversary by having 50 runners or walkers raise $50k by signing up for the 5km walk/run, the 10km, the half marathon or the full marathon.

"The 50th anniversary is a big accomplishment for any fundraising marathon and we want to be able to help out as much as we can," says Pavkovic-Tovissi, who will herself be walking 10K during the race.
