Local Foster Children Sleep a Little Cozier Thanks to Success of First Sleep Country USA Pajama Drive

New Drive Garners Tremendous Support With Donations of More Than 7,000 Pairs of New Pajamas for Area Foster Kids

SEATTLE, WA--(Marketwire - March 17, 2008) - Kicking off the fourth year of its Foster Kids Program, Sleep Country USA's ( first ever Pajama Drive set the stage for another successful year of generous donations taking in 7,039 pairs of pajamas. Donations came in from individuals who held personal drives to get support from friends, families with children who held birthday parties asking for donations in lieu of gifts, and local companies that seized the opportunity to contribute.

"We are thrilled to be able to share this success with our foster children and their foster families," said David Swendseid of Trillium Family Services. "Foster children can enter foster care with just the clothing on their backs, and given that our foster families usually provide care for more than one child, having resources to purchase new clothing is a challenge. New items, even those as simple as pajamas, provide an incredible relief to the parents and invite a sense of belonging for the child."

Sleep Country USA, the Northwest's largest seller of premium mattresses, holds six annual drives to help foster families obtain important material items, such as pajamas, shoes, clothing, coats, school supplies, and gifts during the holidays. The company's success hinges on support from its community, which during the last three years has been responsible for donating more than 117,000 items.

"Being able to pick out a new clothing item or pair of shoes is undeniably one of the positive experiences these children have while living in foster care," said Fran Barnett at CHAP FWD Foster Care at Compass Health. "They are away from their family, and unsure about their future; just knowing that people they don't even know care about them is helpful. And, thanks to companies like Sleep Country USA, they get to keep this memory fresh, especially at night when they sleep in their cozy new pajamas."

"The enormous success of our Pajama Drive during its very first year exceeded our expectations," said Terry Horsley, Vice President of Brand Strategy, Sleep Country USA. "The generosity of our communities continues to amaze us as individuals of all ages and companies of every size taking action to provide for local foster children, invigorating our belief that anyone can help a foster child."

Sleep Country USA is currently accepting donations of new shoes at any of its more than 70 stores throughout Washington and Oregon. Donations will be accepted through April 13th. To find the store nearest you, call 888-88SLEEP or visit
