Local Government Strikes Suspended

LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM--(CCNMatthews - April 12, 2006) - At a meeting of all the unions representing members covered by the Local Government Pension Scheme this morning, a proposed joint statement with the Local Government Pension Association was unanimously recommended for endorsement.

Each of the unions will now urgently be holding their necessary internal consultations on that recommendation.

The joint statement which has already been endorsed by the Local Government Association is the result of detailed informal discussions over recent days. It establishes a framework for detailed negotiations on future local government pensions.
To facilitate these negotiations it is being recommended that all the industrial action currently planned should be suspended.

Amicus National Officer, John Allot says,

"The unions have agreed to suspend future industrial action. Amicus would like to thank its members who took industrial action on 28th March. We are now in a position to try to reach a satisfactory negotiated settlement following an agreed joint statement from the unions and Local Government employers."
