Local groups catch the spirit of Ontario Family Fishing Weekend

Province-wide licence-free family fishing – July 6 to 8, 2007

Attention: Assignment Editor, Lifestyle Editor, News Editor ONTARIO, MEDIA RELEASE:--(Marketwire - June 13, 2007) - Ontario Family Fishing Weekend events are already planned in communities throughout the province, and the Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters (O.F.A.H.) has a free information package for clubs, community groups and local agencies that would like to catch the spirit of this licence-free fishing opportunity, running July 6 to 8, 2007.

"Hosting an Ontario Family Fishing Weekend event in your community provides a jumping-in point for kids and parents that would like to get involved in this great outdoors tradition. Fishing is good family fun that instills a deeply- rooted awareness and respect for nature and conservation," said O.F.A.H. Executive Director, Mike Reader.

Further to the success of the first ever "winter" licence-free weekend, held this past February, Ontario Family Fishing Weekend partners are looking forward to welcoming new host groups for the popular "summer" fishing event that, in the past 14 years, has hooked thousands of participants.

The free Ontario Family Fishing Weekend information package includes volunteer and participation certificates, flyers and posters, Take-A-Kid Fishing and Fish Habitat Care booklets, as well as tips for event planning. Building on its success in delivering family-based outdoor experiences, the O.F.A.H., in partnership with the Ontario Family Fishing Weekend Committee, is pleased to take the lead in presenting this license-free event. Ontario Family Fishing Weekend is supported by the Ontario Government, Department of Fisheries and Oceans, Northern Ontario Tourist Outfitters and the Canadian National Sportfishing Foundation. Ontario Family Fishing Weekend takes place during National Fishing Week which runs from July 1 to 8.
