Local Student Awarded Future Engineers Scholarship From Kelly Services®

TROY, MI--(Marketwired - February 24, 2016) - Kelly Services is pleased to announce the recipient of its 2016 Future Engineers Scholarship, Joy Lees, a biomedical engineering student at the Milwaukee School of Engineering. The announcement is being made during Engineers Week (Feb. 21 - 25, 2016), a time when many employers focus on the contribution and commitment of engineers today and the need for skilled engineers in tomorrow's workplace.

This is the 13th year that Kelly Services has offered the scholarship to engineering students in the United States and Canada. To be considered, applicants must be full-time students pursuing a degree at an accredited institution of higher education in the United States or Canada and be accepted into the School of Engineering. Students must have a minimum of a 3.0 cumulative grade point average (GPA) on a 4.0 scale (or 3.5 on a 4.5 scale, and so forth).

"Throughout the years, we have seen an increase in the determination and commitment of students as they travel their academic path towards a career in engineering," said Tim McAward, vice president, Engineering - Centers of Excellence, Kelly Services. "As a global provider of workforce solutions, Kelly is dedicated to cultivating success for engineering students. Joy is a true representative of the steadfast commitment we are seeing today. "

"Since I was young, I have always been immensely passionate about learning, and I have found great enjoyment in doing the best I can do. Now that I am studying to become a biomedical engineer, I am excited to have the opportunity to apply what I am learning to help people in need," said Lees. "I really hope that I will make a difference as a biomedical engineer and am very grateful and extremely honored to know Kelly Services believes in me and is willing to support me in my journey. I truly look forward to my future in engineering."

In addition to having an outstanding academic performance, candidates are required to write an essay that is judged based on depth of knowledge and awareness of the issue and/or challenge addressed, as well as creativity, composition and originality. Eligible entries are first judged by the Kelly Services Review Committee with the top 10 finalists moving on to be judged by the Executive Review Committee, where a final winner is selected.
