Local Tax Officials to Visit Toronto Businesses as Part of the CRA Community Visit Program

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - June 24, 2008) - The Minister of National Revenue invites businesses to learn more about government tax services from Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) representatives, who will be talking to businesses on Bloor Street West (from Spadina Avenue to Christie Street), and on Danforth Avenue (from Broadview Avenue to Pape Avenue) as part of the CRA's Community Visit program.

The purpose of these visits is to ensure that business owners are aware of the information and services available to them from their nearest Tax Services Office. Significant portions of the visit are also spent discussing Underground Economy Initiatives. The CRA is committed to ensuring its audit, collection and enforcement activities effectively detect and deter underground economy activity because for legitimate businesses, underground operators provide unfair competition.

The CRA is committed to ensuring public trust in the integrity and equity of the tax system. Agency officials promote voluntary compliance with the law by providing information and services, informing Canadians of the risks associated with the underground economy, and taking appropriate measures against those who do not pay their taxes.

For more information on services for business, visit the CRA website at www.cra.gc.ca.
