Local Woman Business Owner Jane Skeeter of UltraGlas Named One of 10 Business Women of the Year

LOS ANGELES, CA--(Marketwire - March 3, 2011) - In the United States alone, there are 10.1 million firms owned by women (50% or more), employing more than 13 million people and generating $1.9 trillion in sales. It's quite an honor to be recognized among such a formidable force for local woman entrepreneur Jane Skeeter, founder and president of Chatsworth-based UltraGlas. She was just named one of 10 Business Women of the Year by the San Fernando Valley Business Journal that serves Los Angeles, Glendale, Burbank, Conejo Valley, Simi Valley, San Fernando, Calabasas, Agoura Hills, Santa Clarita and Antelope Valley.

Over the past 10 years since this award program began, the San Fernando Valley Business Journal has recognized 120 professional women for their outstanding achievements in business. Several years back, Skeeter was honored as Woman CEO of the Year. To celebrate the program's 10th anniversary in 2011, the publication honored all past honorees at a special event in February. Additionally, it selected 10 Business Women of the Year, with Skeeter among them. "I was surprised and honored because the other candidates are so impressive," she says.

Additionally, in 2010, Skeeter won the National Association of Women Business Owners (NAWBO®)/Wells Fargo Trailblazer Award that annually honors three women entrepreneurs for their talent, drive and entrepreneurial spirit, providing them a $5,000 grant for their businesses. Recipients demonstrate the development of unique products, services or delivery channels in their business as well as a vision and commitment to building an organization that makes a difference in the community.

Skeeter started her first company at age 12 when she launched an ironing business out of her home. In the early '70s her love of creating stained glass grew into a business that today employs a cadre of artisans in the San Fernando Valley and is a recognized world leader in the innovation, design and manufacturing of thermally embossed architectural glass.

Skeeter is now excited to be taking the organization to the next level through a new brand image that will launch this year, as well as a major product expansion to make the company more vertically integrated and give customers new, diverse choices in architectural glass. This includes adding encapsulation and lamination to the product line and new capabilities in total building photovoltaic glass. She has also partnered with local agencies, Economic Alliance and Valley Economic Development Council (VEDC), to expand her business and contribute to local job creation.

Established in 1988, UltraGlas is a recognized world leader in the design and manufacturing of thermally embossed architectural glass. The company is also considered a single source for all facets of designed architectural glass, providing all forms of designed architectural glass for a myriad of applications. The company's products include 15 to 100 percent recycled glass content. The company has developed UltraGlas-e (patent pending) to divert millions of tons of scrap glass from landfills throughout the country and around the world.
