December 05, 2011 09:35 ET Tis the Season for Getting Breast Implants Sees Increased Demand for Breast Implant Surgery During Holidays

ORLANDO, FL--(Marketwire - Dec 5, 2011) - finds there is a direct correlation between the holiday gift-giving season and an overall increase in cosmetic procedures, particularly silicone-based breast implants.

Researchers for, a comprehensive online source for consumers in search of information about elective procedures and treatments, say the number of implant requests rise during the winter holiday. It is a trend that steadily picks up after the warmer months.

"We have noticed on that there are a number of breast implant patient requests increasing since the summer," says Karen Castillo of "In 2009, breast implant requests nearly doubled on from the month of November to December."

The American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery already reports December is the busiest month for tummy tucks and microdermabrasion procedures, but now is now noticing the trend shift to breast implants too.

The trend may be partially attributed to celebrities and their Christmas procedures. It is speculated that celebrities like LeAnn Rimes and Ashley Tisdale have undergone breast implant surgery as a Christmas gift, whether from themselves or a loved one, according to various media sources, including US Weekly.

There also may be a steady rise in breast implants because of favorable reports about their safety. This past year, The FDA released a lengthy report supporting a reasonable assurance of safety in silicone breast implants, after years of studying the implants.

"Upon the FDA's seal of approval regarding silicone breast implants earlier this year, we believe women, after learning of the report, now feel a bit more at ease with the safety and effectiveness of the silicone breast implant," Castillo says.

According to another study, done by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, 246,000 breast augmentation procedures were performed in 2010. That number is up 2 percent from 2009. In that same study, it also was reported that breast augmentation was the No. 1 procedure performed in 2010. is a premier online physician directory connecting you with more than 150,000 doctors in specialties such as Cosmetic and Plastic Surgery, Bariatric, IVF, Hair Restoration, LASIK and Cosmetic Dentistry.
