Lockdown at Edmonton Institution


EDMONTON, ALBERTA--(Marketwired - April 9, 2015) - Correctional Service Canada

On April 9, 2015, at about 1:30 p.m., a lockdown was put in place at Edmonton Institution, a maximum security federal institution as a result of operational security requirements.

The lockdown was ordered to ensure the safety and security of the institution, its staff and inmates. Visits have been suspended until the lockdown is completed. Normal operations will resume as soon as it is considered safe to do so.

In order to improve practices aimed at preventing this type of incident, the Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) will continue to review the circumstances surrounding this incident and take the appropriate measures.
