Locked out Southern Rail workers set to picket CP

PORT COQUITLAM, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwired - March 5, 2015) - Locked out CUPE 7000 rail workers will be picketing the entrance to CP Rail's PoCo rail yards this morning starting at 6 am. The Southern Railway (SRY) workers are protesting CP Rail performing their work during a labour dispute.

The 126 rail yard SRY employees were locked out of their jobs on January 5. Since then, Southern Rail managers have been running the trains, but Canadian Pacific Rail has been helping them with line switching inside SRY's Trapp Yard in New Westminster.

CUPE 7000 Southern Railway workers are conductors, engineers, brakemen, trackmen, locomotive repair and maintenance workers, and others who operate, maintain and service SRY freight trains, including supervising line switching.

CUPE 7000 has formally complained to CP Rail management about this situation, but CP has shown no signs of stopping the practice.

Where: CP Rail Yard entrance, Lougheed Hwy at Coast Meridian, Port Coquitlam
When: 6 am, Thursday March 5, 2015
