LockNET Standardizes on Fortinet for Managed Security Services Infrastructure

MSSP Deploys Fortinet Unified Threat Management Solutions at Headquarters and Client Sites for Provisioning Robust, Scalable Managed Services

SUNNYVALE, CA--(Marketwire - October 22, 2007) - Fortinet® -- the pioneer and leading provider of unified threat management (UTM) solutions -- today announced that LockNET, a Midwest-based managed security service provider (MSSP) and accredited member of the MSPAlliance, has replaced its previous SonicWall firewalls and have standardized on Fortinet's FortiGate™ multi-threat security systems to provision its nfire™ network security management solution. LockNET's nfire network security offering provides firewall, antivirus, Web content filtering, anti-spam, VPN and intrusion prevention functionality to its small and medium business customers.

After meeting with Fortinet and a thorough evaluation of UTM product functions and management capabilities, LockNET saw the potential to streamline deployment and centrally manage security services with an integrated platform combining firewall, antivirus, Web content filtering, anti-spam, VPN and intrusion prevention functionality into one appliance. Rather than having multiple vendors, such as SonicWall and Symantec, for different security functionalities, LockNET saw the advantage of having one integrated network security appliance provided by Fortinet. In addition, LockNET determined that management and reporting of the appliances would become much easier because of a common graphical user interface across all platforms and the use of FortiManager™ and FortiAnalyzer™.

Deployment to a wide variety of customers required flexible capabilities. LockNET has installed many different models of FortiGate appliances ranging from the FortiGate-60 family of multi-threat security appliance through the FortiGate-400A multi-threat security system, plus FortiManager and FortiAnalyzer. Many of these end users are leveraging the FortiGate appliances to help create secure and encrypted VPN connections using the Internet between locations. This in turn helps to save customers significant dollars per month in connections between locations compared to traditional dedicated point-to-point solutions. LockNET has also used multiple Fortinet installations at different locations to allow a single customer disaster recovery and business continuity in the case of a failure at the main location. For desktop security, LockNET has purchased Fortinet's FortiClient™ endpoint security solution to be installed on each customer machine, often at much lower pricing than competitive desktop antivirus software packages.

"Fortinet has allowed us to expand our offering from a basic firewall provided by multiple vendors to a single network security solution that includes firewall, VPN, intrusion protection, Web content filtering and much more," said Steve Lubahn, vice president of sales and marketing at LockNET. "Fortinet's robust security solution along with its high-performance ASIC processing has allowed us to help our customers' businesses grow while ensuring their networks are secure."

At LockNET headquarters, a FortiManager centralized management system and FortiAnalyzer centralized reporting system monitor and report on network usage for the breadth of Fortinet appliances located at each customer premise. Since deploying the FortiAnalyzer and FortiManager, LockNET is now able to provide customers with detailed monthly reports on network usage and attempted attacks. Unlike the previous rudimentary report from SonicWall, customers now get detailed systematic reporting, including technical details for network security support staff and customized high-level summary reports for an executive view of network security statistics and Internet usage.

Fortinet's FortiGate systems are ASIC-accelerated security appliances that integrate essential security applications such as antivirus, firewall, VPN, intrusion prevention, Web filtering, anti-spam and traffic shaping. All FortiGate systems are kept up to date automatically by Fortinet's FortiGuard Network, which helps ensure protection against the most damaging, content-based threats from email and Web traffic such as viruses, worms, intrusions, other unwanted network traffic and more -- around the clock and around the world. FortiGate systems are centrally managed by Fortinet's FortiManager appliances which minimize the administrative effort required to deploy, configure, monitor and maintain the full range of network protection services provided by Fortinet products. FortiAnalyzer systems are purpose built appliances that provide valuable intelligence and simplify and centralize the collection and analysis of log and event data from Fortinet's FortiGate security appliances, delivering highly relevant network reports, valuable intelligence on network usage and assistance with meeting regulatory compliance.

"We are pleased to have helped LockNET roll out a new level of managed security services for its Midwest customer base," said Karl Soderlund, vice president of Americas sales and global alliances for Fortinet. "Our UTM solutions and extensive reporting capability make Fortinet a perfect fit for MSSPs needing a security delivery infrastructure with superior performance, scalability and ease of management."
