Logical Operations Announces Learning Support for Underprivileged Communities through a Donation to IT Without Borders

ROCHESTER, NY--(Marketwired - July 22, 2015) - Logical Operations, the world's leading provider of information technology instructor-led courseware, is pleased to announce its support of IT Without Borders, a foundation dedicated to empowering underserved communities by building information technology skills and information access. In support of our partner, Chrys Thorsen, founder of this philanthropic foundation, Logical Operations has donated printed course material to assist in the building of IT skills in underserved communities. The course materials cover the basics of personal computers running the Windows 7 and 8 operating systems, as well as Microsoft Office applications such as PowerPoint, Word, and Excel.

Advanced computer skills, and sometimes even basic/introductory knowledge of computers, is something that many in less privileged communities lack. Basic computer skills are an essential part of many jobs today, and lacking the ability to learn those skills puts many people at a severe disadvantage. IT Without Borders aims to rectify this issue with intuitive eLearning centers, featuring libraries with computers for public use and plenty of course material. IT Without Borders also uses inventive methods for teaching, using practical hands-on methods to teach a group of learners, and then using those learners to help teach the next wave of learners to reinforce the skills they already learned. With this, IT Without Borders provides a route for underserved communities to learn the skills that can help community members reach their goals.

"I have come to see that you cannot effectively address health without also addressing education," said Chrys Thorsen, founder of IT Without Borders. "You can't break the cycle of poverty and violence and have gender equality until people are educated. I'm really glad to tackle technology in education, not only to help Africans get on closer footing with their western counterparts, but also because technology implies math and science, and learning it is a tremendous tool for empowerment -- for girls, boys -- indeed, whole communities. In the U.S., we take technology for granted in our daily lives. We're cavalier about being always online and always connected, using any computer at hand to download anything we want. But in a developing nation, the digital divide is a wider chasm than the gender gap. To witness a person not only be able to use technology, but to master it is extraordinary. Suddenly bonds are broken. Suddenly, they're a whole new person with an endless future ahead."

"We are thrilled to be able to lend a hand to such a benevolent organization," said Bill Rosenthal, CEO, Logical Operations. "Education is incredibly important, and in many cases can put underprivileged people in a position to change their lives. Logical Operations' computer learning materials are the best of the best, and we believe this foundation, and its beneficiaries, deserve nothing less."

About IT Without Borders
IT Without Borders empowers under-served communities through capacity building ICT skills and information access. In each location, we provide an eLearning library with computers for public use, and Internet access where available. We equip teachers to teach others to use computers not only for job skills but also for self-development, life skills, and leadership training. We encourage eLearning as a platform to overcome ignorance and cultural issues that lead to underage pregnancy, domestic violence, and a cycle of poverty. We teach the technical skills necessary to maintain the system, and work with local leaders to make each deployment sustainable.
