London Firefighters to Begin Overtime Ban Tomorrow Morning

LONDON, ENGLAND--(Marketwire - Sept. 23, 2010) - London firefighters will start their campaign of industrial action short of a strike tomorrow (Friday 24 September) at 9 a.m., unless the sacking notices sent out by London's Chief Fire Officer Ron Dobson are withdrawn. This will include an overtime ban, a refusal to undertake higher duties and a withdrawal from various voluntary projects and initiatives.

They are also being balloted on strike action, and the ballot will close at 2 pm on Thursday 14 October 2010.

"Firefighters hate taking industrial action, and what we want to do is negotiate, not strike" says FBU general secretary Matt Wrack. "We understand that the London Fire Brigade wants to change the shift patterns our members work, and we are willing to continue the negotiations over shift patterns in good faith. We would be also willing to lift all industrial action as soon as they withdraw the sacking notices."
