Long Island Plastic Surgeon Receives Heroes in Health Award for His Contributions

Dr. Roger Simpson of Long Island Plastic Surgical Group Will Accept NuHealth Foundation's Heroes in Health Award at the Foundation's Annual Gala

LONG ISLAND, NY--(Marketwired - May 29, 2013) - Established in 1948, Long Island Plastic Surgical Group (LIPSG) has grown to become the largest private academic plastic surgery practice in the United States. Focusing their energies on communication, training, and medical ethics, LIPSG has trained more than 100 surgeons since its inception as a Long Island plastic surgery practice and the surgeons are known for their quality of care. Contributing to this reputation of excellence, Dr. Roger L. Simpson of LIPSG will accept the NuHealth Foundation's Heroes in Health award at the Foundation's annual gala on June 27.

The NuHealth Foundation was founded with the purpose of generating philanthropic funds that provide the patients of the NuHealth System the quality of care they have come to expect and enjoy. The funds generated by the NuHealth Foundation are a vital component to producing innovative clinical services and advanced medical technology for the NuHealth System (which includes Nassau University Medical Center, a Holly Patterson Extended Care Facility, and five federally qualified family health centers throughout Nassau County). One of those centers of care -- Nassau University Medical Center (NUMC) in East Meadow -- has the distinction of having Dr. Simpson serve as the center's Director of Residency Training in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. In addition to this role, Dr. Simpson also serves as NUMC's Chief of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Director of the Burn Center, and Chief of the Hand Surgery Service.

Executive director of NuHealth Foundation Deidra Parrish Williams said of this year's Heroes in Health award: "For his excellence, commitment and his long-standing relationship to Nassau University Medical Center, it's particularly fitting to pay tribute to Dr. Simpson. Before he went on to become an exceptional physician and part of our leadership and training team, he completed his residency training at NUMC. Honoring him in a way that generates support for our future brings the relationship full circle."

Dr. Simpson has been working with NUMC since he was a resident in general surgery at the medical center in 1974. He went on to also complete a residency in plastic surgery at NUMC before eventually becoming director of the center's residency program in 1989 -- a role he still holds today.

The NuHealth Foundation's gala, where Dr. Simpson will receive the Heroes in Health award, will be held at Oheka Castle in Huntington, NY. In response to the upcoming event, Long Island plastic surgeon Dr. Simpson has said: "I am particularly honored to be recognized by the NuHealth Foundation. My work at NUMC has afforded me the ability to ensure that patients from all backgrounds receive the highest standards of care."
