Long Point Eco-Adventure's Guests to Leave a Legacy of Nature & Beauty

Long Point Eco-Adventures Joins EcoStay Certified in Making a Commitment for Generation to Come

LONG POINT, ON--(Marketwired - June 30, 2016) - Your visit to Long Point Eco-Adventures just got a little greener. Today, the resort, surrounded by Ontario's beautiful Turkey Point Marsh and Carolinian Forests officially joined EcoStay™ Certified; a third party program that supports hotels across North America in their effort to take action to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Through the program, Long Point Eco-Adventures will be supporting the EcoStay Motherland Reforestation initiative; a masterpiece eco-tourism project, providing a unique parkland of carbon sequestration, wildlife habitat, education and cultural heritage.

Exclusively supported by travel and tourism, the EcoStay Motherland Reforestation initiative is one of the most important collaborative reforestation projects in the country, and one of the first to be awarded the world-renowned Gold Standard certification for environmental projects and transparency.

"Each night a guest stays at Long Point Eco-Adventures we'll make a contribution to the project on their behalf," says Payden Shrubb, operation's manager. The project aims to restore 55 hectares, or 90 football fields, of Canadian degraded land with a native species forest that will sequester an estimated 120,000 tonnes of carbon over the next 50 years, or the equivalent emissions from 480 billion kilometers of car travel.

The plantation will be orchestrated to visibly represent the turtle, one of the major aboriginal symbols of the earth and regeneration, and modelled after a commissioned illustration by Bill Helin, celebrated aboriginal artist. Visible in the land art from above and accessible for all to enjoy, the EcoStay Motherland Forest will be complete with a motorist rest stop, walking path and educational signage about the project and its role in easing greenhouse gas emissions, biodiversity and the interaction of First Nations people with nature. And EcoStay's virtual forest allows hotel guests to register their name, share with friends and discover more.

"EcoStay's Motherland initiative promises to unite millions of travelers from around the globe," says EcoStay President Christina deVries.

As an EcoStay Certified hotel, Long Point Eco-Adventures is also committing to track their energy, waste, water, emissions and eco-attributes using a real-time on-line industry standard portal developed by Greenview and invest in energy conservation and waste reduction technologies and practices throughout their hotel.

Payden Shrubb concludes by saying, "We are so proud to be a part of this meaningful industry initiative. It just goes to show that together we really can make a difference".

EcoStay Certified is a third party program that helps hoteliers invest in energy saving and emission reducing projects, while truly engaging today's discerning traveler.
