The new 40,000 square foot store is a specialty market that elevates the grocery shopping experience to a sensory adventure in food!

In addition to everyday foods and staples, Longo's Boxgrove features made-on-site delicacies such as; authentic Belgian chocolates, specialty artisan breads, flatbreads and roti, the new store delivers on all the expectations of quality, freshness and variety that Longo's shoppers have come to expect.

The store also stocks a large selection of hot and healthy, ready-made meal solutions prepared by Longo's own in-house chef not to mention a selection of over 40 fresh and wholesome salad bar options.

"After more than 52 years in business, I am proud to say that the Longo's name has become synonymous with fresh food, excellent customer service and bright, clean, modern stores," says Anthony Longo, president and CEO. "Our vast selection of unique products from around the world make Longo's the store that people who truly appreciate food choose to shop at."

Noted among those "in the know" as having the GTA's finest selection of fresh & unique locally grown produce and products, Longo's offers an unrivalled choice of select cuts of Canadian meat, fish and seafood as well as exotic sea salts, spices and oils imported from around the world. Longo's is the only grocery retailer in the region that has over 20 certified cheese masters that can assist customers with a selection from one of over 300 cheeses to choose from.

Longo's also provides a wider range of locally sourced items than any other regional grocer.

"Working with local farmers and producers has always been part of how Longo's does business. During the warmer growing season over 80 per cent of our produce is grown locally, with items such as lettuce, tomatoes and broccoli grown as close as Markham," explains Anthony. "Approximately 80 per cent of our fresh meat is locally
raised here in Ontario and Longo's fresh fish and seafood counter features more than 70 per cent of its offerings from Canadian waters."

Also featured in the new store is a community Loft that will host cooking classes and special events, and Longo's Aromate Café that offers a large array of gourmet loose tea blends and will roast your coffee beans while you shop.

This new larger format Longo's store is the second of its kind to open in recent months. The first at Burloak in Oakville in March 2008 has been welcomed as a successful addition to the community. The new format locations herald a new generation of Longo's stores that have been designed to meet an increasing consumer demand for a superior shopping experience and access to a wider variety of quality foods and services. More of these specialty format Longo's stores are scheduled to open in the coming months.

The opening ceremony featured a performance from Northwood Academy Montessori, a few words from Markham Mayor, Frank Scarpitti, Rosanne Longo, Anthony Longo and store manager Vince Tortorici. The festivities were capped with a ribbon cutting ceremony and cake.

Opening festivities designed for food-loving customers are taking place throughout September. The address for the new store is 98 Copper Creek Drive, Markham, Ontario, L6B 0P2
