Longtime Residents to Sell Horse Ranch, Development Land Along Mississippi River

MUSCATINE, IA--(Marketwire - September 17, 2009) - For more than four decades, Mike and Jeri Glass have made their home on the bluffs overlooking the Mississippi River in Iowa's Muscatine County, growing hay and raising Thoroughbreds.

But now, they're preparing to sell their home and approximately 81 acres of surrounding land at auction so that they can move to Florida to be near their grandchildren.

The property includes an equestrian center on approximately 39 acres where Mrs. Glass boarded horses until an injury forced her to retire a few years ago. Albert Burney Auction Company will auction the properties Saturday, Oct. 10. The property will sell absolute, with no minimum bid or reserve.

"This has been a wonderful home to us, but the equestrian facilities are not being used to their potential," said Mrs. Glass, who now cares for only three horses in the facilities, which have 52 stables -- 23 of which of never been used. "We grew hay on most of the cleared land and used it for the horse operations, and we've been here since the 1970s. But we're retired and really want to be in South Florida where we can see our children and grandchildren," she said.

In addition to the equestrian facility on 39 acres, the sale will include three 10-acre tracts overlooking the Mississippi for residential development. Finally, the sale will include approximately 12 acres divided into 10 home sites.

"The equestrian facilities are really first class, and I can't imagine a better environment for riding than this land overlooking the Mississippi," said Warren Ward, president of Albert Burney. "The three 10-acre tracts are ideal for developers or investors, and the 10 home sites will appeal to both individuals seeking a home site and builders seeking sites on which to build for future customers," said Ward.
