Look Out for Second Hand Bikes Secrets, Warns Swinton Bike Insurance

MANCHESTER, UNITED KINGDOM--(Marketwire - Dec. 5, 2010) - If you're thinking of buying a second hand motorcycle this Christmas, look out for any hidden faults, as a survey by Swinton Bike Insurance reveals a 15% increase in sellers misrepresenting themselves this festive season.

The survey of 1200 customers, completed online by Swinton Bike Insurance, discovered 43% of respondents had experienced problems with their second hand bike, ranging from a chipped mud guard to faulty brakes.

Swinton Bike Insurance has compiled a guide to second hand bikes statutory rights. When buying second hand bikes, buyers have;

  • The right to expect the bike to be of merchantable quality.

  • The right to expect the bike to be fit for purpose.

  • The right to expect the bike to be as described.

  • The right to expect the bike to be fit for the road.

  • The right to expect the bike to be in a condition that reflects its price and/or age.

  • The right to expect the bike to be reasonably reliable.

Anthony Aronin, head of Swinton Bikes, said, "It's important to know that the vast majority of second hand bikes are sold from honest motorcycle enthusiasts, however when buying, make sure you know exactly what your buying and that you take out the best insurance deal possible."
