Looking for a Halloween Haunt? Ghosts & "Spirited" Cocktails Are Appearing at Fairmont Hotels in the Pacific Northwest

Vancouver Restaurants' Mixologists Have Scared Up the Finest Seasonal Cocktails

VANCOUVER, BC--(Marketwire - Oct 16, 2012) - Over the decades, Fairmont Hotels & Resorts' iconic properties have hosted the who's who of dignitaries, celebrities, state leaders... and even a few rumored ghosts.

For years, in fact, front desk agents at the Fairmont Empress -- one of the most celebrated landmarks in Victoria, BC -- have had guests report that a woman, wearing a historic looking uniform, was cleaning their room. The story goes that when the hotel first opened in 1908, it was customary for housekeepers to live in the 6th floor attic rooms. They all had balconies, and the maids could often be seen taking a break in the fresh air. Unfortunately, on a day when the balconies had been removed for repairs, a young maid named Lizzie McGrath stepped out and plunged to her death. Now, more than 100 years later, she can still occasionally be seen reporting to work at this legendary hotel.

Additionally, at the classic Fairmont Hotel Vancouver, there have been numerous sightings of the lady in red. The elegant apparition is believed to be Jennie Pearl Cox who, along with her husband and daughter, was a regular at the hotel's luxurious social gatherings. In the summer of 1944, she was killed in a tragic car accident just steps from the hotel. She is believed to be the graceful ghost who has been seen floating along in the hallways of this hotel in Vancouver.

For guests who prefer to sip, rather than sight, their spirits, mixologists at Fairmont's Vancouver restaurants have a variety of hand-crafted cocktails ready for the spookiest time of the year.
