Los Angeles Fashion Awards & Scottish Fashion Awards Form Unique Cultural Exchange Program

Save the Date: LA Fashion Awards Set for October 20, 2006

LOS ANGELES, CA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- May 3, 2006 -- The LA Fashion Awards confirmed today that they have established a creative cultural exchange program with the Scottish Fashion Awards.

This innovative program will launch at the inaugural Scottish Fashion Awards, which takes place at Stirling Castle, Scotland on 7th May 2006. Jennifer Üner, co-founder and producer of the LA Fashion Awards along with Mary Hill, will travel to Scotland as an international judge of the competition, and to finalize details of the exchange program. The winner of the 'Scottish Fashion New Talent Award 2006' will have the opportunity to visit Los Angeles on October 20, 2006 to attend the second annual Los Angeles Fashion Awards. Similarly, an LA Fashion Awards winner will enjoy the opportunity to travel to Scotland next May as a visiting international judge.

By exchanging ideas and facilitating a network across the globe, the award partners hope to offer a new generation of fashion talent an opportunity to experience fashion, seek out buyers and explore innovative manufacturing techniques that both territories can exploit.

Both the Los Angeles and Scottish Fashion Awards were established to celebrate and honor emerging talent, rising stars and leading designers of their territories. This unique union will offer each event an increased awareness of their fashion contributions that are spread across the world. Whether it is an LA-based denim brand integrating tartan into a current collection, or a Scottish talent leveraging California contemporary style for new looks on the runway, both entities and both communities can only benefit.

"This is an incredibly exciting opportunity for both Los Angeles and Scotland, and one for which I am sure will grow in stature and prestige. Innovative partnerships such as this can not only benefit the designers as individuals, but retailers and manufacturers who are appreciating that the global fashion market is a lot smaller than we think! Who knows what will emerge from such a union, but the fusion of perhaps tartan and cashmere with edgy Californian design techniques might herald a new era," said Tessa Hartmann, founder/producer of the Scottish Fashion Awards 2006.

At the inaugural Scottish Fashion Awards this weekend, Jennifer Uner will join a top-flight international judging panel, which includes Jean Marc Loubier (CEO Celine, LVMH Group), Alexandra Shulman (Editor of British Vogue), Amy Sacco (style leader and NY entrepreneur) and Gary Van Dis (VP Corporate Creative Conde Nast USA) among other style leaders.

Fellow judge Alistair Johnston, Vice Chairman of global management company IMG, said of this union: "Like sports, fashion is becoming an integral component of lifestyle enhancement that transcends borders and languages but still reflects the culture and heritage of the local population. I am delighted that the introduction of these awards and LA program gives Scotland the platform to expose the inherent talents of its designers to a broader global audience." IMG owns the world's #1 model agency, IMG Models, based in New York as well as operating several shows around the world including the prestigious New York Fashion Week and Los Angeles Fashion Week events.

October 20, 2006 marks the second annual LA Fashion Awards, slated to take place at the Orpheum Theatre. The event is perfectly timed to close LA Fashion Week and open LA Market Week for the Spring 2007 season. An invitation-only nominating committee of fashion editors, stylists, retailers, designers, trend forecasters and marketplace leaders will make recommendations to the 2006 ballot and vote on the nominees and winners for the coming event. Nominees and honorees for the second annual LA Fashion Awards will be announced in July.

LA Fashion Awards premiere event winners include Designer Nony Tochterman of Petro Zillia, with the Moss Adams Fashion Innovator Award, famed retailer Ron Herman at Fred Segal Melrose for Fashion Retailer of the Year, and Dov Charney of American Apparel for Marketing Excellence. They joined other fashion leaders honored at the premiere event: designer Trina Turk was presented with the Fashion Achievement Award; former west coast bureau chief Rose Apodaca of Women's Wear Daily was honored with the Communications Award; educator Rosemary Brantley of Otis College of Art + Design received the Inspiration Award, and Richard Woolcott of active lifestyle brand Volcom, Inc., received California Apparel IPO of the Year presented by NASDAQ.

Over 1,000 fashion industry professionals and fashion fans attended the premiere event including presenters Bob Mackie (nine-time Emmy winning costume designer), Arianne Phillips (stylist and Oscar-nominated costume designer for "Walk the Line") and Cate Adair (costume designer for "Desperate Housewives") and event host Melissa Rivers.

Among the confirmed top sponsors renewing event support for the 2006 LA Fashion Awards are founding sponsor Moss Adams LLP for the MAFI (Moss Adams Fashion Innovator Award) and Wells Fargo Century, which has just named the Wells Fargo Century Fashion Achievement Award.
