Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation Receives Motorola Solutions Foundation Public Safety Grant

Will Provide Seed Funding for LAFD's New Magnet High School Program

LOS ANGELES, CA--(Marketwired - August 17, 2016) - The Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation today received a $75,000 grant from the Motorola Solutions Foundation as part of Motorola's public safety grant awards. The donation will make it possible for the Foundation to aid the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) in implementing the LAFD's Fire and Emergency Medicine Magnet High School program, which begins next week at the city's Wilson and Banning High Schools.

Karen Wagener, president of the LAFD Foundation, says the grant will be instrumental in facilitating the development of the two new schools. "It provides the spark for a new program that will in time directly benefit LAFD recruitment," said Wagener. "The grant will prepare students for the world beyond school, even if they don't choose a career in public safety."

Matt Blakely, executive director of the Motorola Solutions Foundation, says the grant reflects Motorola's support of innovation that enhances public safety. "The programs we support benefit a broad range of communities served by law enforcement officers and staff, fire service personnel, federal agents, and emergency medical service providers, as well as our men and women in the military services," said Blakely.

In 2016, Motorola Solutions Foundation donated $3.45 million to 83 organizations across the US -- efforts that benefitted nearly 1,000,000 first-responders and community members.
