Lotus Notes/Domino Has 23% Mailbox Market Share of Corporate Messaging & Collaboration Market

A New Study From The Radicati Group, Inc. Provides Detailed Installed Base, Revenue, Breakouts by Version and Region for IBM Lotus Notes/Domino and IBM Workplace

PALO ALTO, CA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- August 1, 2005 -- The Radicati Group, Inc.'s latest study, "IBM Lotus Messaging Software, Market Analysis, 2005-2009," provides an in-depth analysis of the current and forecasted Lotus Notes/Domino and IBM Workplace Messaging installed base, with extensive breakouts by version, business size and region.

According to the study, Lotus Domino's current market share of 23% (88.3 million mailboxes) is projected to drop to 13% (68 million mailboxes) by the end of 2009.

Driving this market share erosion is IBM's own new Workplace initiative, a J2EE-based web services collaboration platform that the company is pushing to be the future of its messaging line.

While the strategic roadmap for Workplace is impressive, 25% of Domino customers still don't understand the Workplace strategy, and only 21% of Domino customers plan on deploying Workplace.

Regionally, North America currently accounts for 38% of the Lotus Domino installed base, while Europe accounts for 31%. These figures are expected to shift slightly over the next four years, however, in favor of Europe. In 2009, Europe will make up 35% of the Lotus Domino installed base, compared with 33% in North America.
