Love Montreal Brings the Heat to Welcome Hall Mission Children

Hundreds of children in the South-West district of Montreal who are served by Welcome Hall Mission's Children's Services will be warmer this winter thanks to an initiative by Love Montreal. A grass-roots organization created to fuel acts of kindness in Montreal, Love Montreal creates opportunities for individuals and groups to experience community within the urban landscape.

Their December #BringtheHeat campaign saw numerous businesses play host to donation boxes - resulting in hundreds of hats and pairs of mittens for children aged five to twelve. Organization ambassador Rosanna Tomiuk chose Welcome Hall Mission as the beneficiary of the impressive donation as a "thank you for all their extraordinary work with Montreal's disadvantaged since 1892."

2015 marks the 123^rd year that Welcome Hall Mission has been serving Montrealers. For the first century of its existence, the mission focused its work on providing emergency shelter to homeless men. In the past twenty years, however, it has broadened its scope to include a wide range of services, benefiting Montrealers in need of all ages. What distinguishes Welcome Hall Mission from other missions in the city is its breadth of services that include Men's Services (emergency shelter, addiction treatment and reinsertion), Youth Services, a program for pregnant girls and young mothers, a food bank, thrift store, medical services (including a dental clinic and nursing services) and Children's Services.

Welcome Hall Mission's Children's Services provide academic support to children in St-Henri and Ville Émard during the school year and summer programming and camp experiences during the summer. Two special events - in August and December - provide school supplies and Christmas gifts to over 4,800 children.
