Lumed Canada Announces Suite of Telemedicine Solutions and Sets Sights on the Arctic Region

Lumed's Telemedicine Solutions Combine Technology-Independent Interoperability With Sophisticated Design for Ease of Integration

VANCOUVER, BC--(Marketwired - October 07, 2014) - Lumed Canada, a developer and supplier of telecommunication and information technology telemedicine solutions, today announced a technology-independent suite of products designed to enhance existing medical and hospital infrastructure for remote healthcare services.

Unveiled last week at Vancouver's Interface 2014: The Future of Health summit, Lumed telemedicine solutions increase medical care access and reduce remote care costs. Based on a platform that can easily integrate with existing systems, and designed to be intuitive and user-friendly, Lumed's workstations incorporate today's most advanced telepresence technology in order to augment the efficacy of remote consultations. The solutions' proprietary software supports real-time communication and the complete integration with a great number of peripheral medical devices.

As Canada's healthcare industry rushes to improve access to timely care in the nation's growing rural and aging communities, demand has grown for medical telecommunication technologies that are easy to use, portable, scalable and cost-effective. In explaining Lumed's value Gerardo Iglesias, president of Lumed Canada said, "our technology offers access to comprehensive remote clinical services quickly and cost-effectively. From the ability to perform and discuss an ultrasound or an ECG in real-time, to blood chemistry test results available in 12 minutes, Lumed's real time capabilities to manage, read and recall different source files is a game changer and has poised us to service remote towns and first nations enclaves, all the way up to the arctic."

Designed for Physicians by a Physician
Lumed's technology platform, for which Lumed Canada holds the exclusive licensing rights, has its origins in the work by practicing physician Dr. Carlos Iglesias. As an academic at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM), Dr. Iglesias researched the viability of using new technology to link remote sites to specialized medicine. The research done at UNAM, led to Dr. Iglesias' collaboration with engineer Alan Morales and the creation of Lumed.

Lumed telemedicine solutions are nimble and can adapt to a doctor's needs, while also being robust and supporting real time telemedicine consultations through single-standing workstations or portable tablets.

Enabling the immediate exchange of medical information from different geographic locations through an elegant and intuitive GUI, has earned the technology recognition including Microsoft's 2013 Innovative Technology for Good Citizenship award.

Lumed's Suite of End-to-End Solutions

Lumed telemedicine solutions are available in Canada beginning today. The solutions are built with proprietary software and hardware that enable physicians to remotely access or collect medical records, high-definition video, audio and images of patients for real time or "store-and-forward" consultations.

Lumed Canada's technology is currently available as one of three solutions:

Lumed Start - Designed to meet the telemedicine needs of both hospitals and outpatient clinics. Lumed Start is a standalone multi-function touchscreen workstation that combines a highly intuitive graphical application with multi-peripheral integration and codec-based videoconferencing technology.
Lumed Specialist - Designed for specialized care hospitals, Lumed Specialist's medical-grade video monitors and "all-in-one" workstations, allow for full integration of audio, video and data among all connected devices.
Lumed Slate - Available in both portable tablets and all-in-one-computers, it offers similar functionality as the other Lumed solutions with the added benefit of increased mobility. Lumed Slate is ideally suited for medical offices and mobile practitioners.

From high-quality telepresence capabilities to EMR and PACS integration, and point to point or multi-point connectivity, Lumed telemedicine solutions are designed to scale and integrate into existing telemedicine networks, or to offer healthcare providers a state-of-the-art solution to enter the market, or expand their current networks.
