Luna Development Introduces the Power of Quick Response Code Technology to North America

Technology leverages Windows Mobile software to connect consumers to a world of information and resources using camera-equipped mobile devices

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Nov. 26, 2007) - Luna Development today announced the introduction to North America of Luna Blitzkap, a set of Quick Response (QR) code®(1) applications for devices based on Windows Mobile® software. QR codes are two-dimensional images similar to barcodes that allow mobile device users to capture a variety of information directly from a printed source with their camera-equipped mobile phone. The information can provide a link to a website or online service, automatically dial a phone number, exchange a business card, or run an application all by simply taking a picture. Leveraging the flexible Windows Mobile-based development platform, Luna designed the solution to provide businesses with a cutting-edge marketing tool that provides consumers with fast and direct access to digital content, setting a new standard for interactivity and convenience. Luna is working closely with major mobile operators in Canada and the U.S. to deliver the Luna QR solution to North American users.

"QR codes were first introduced in Japan about four years ago and have exploded in popularity over the past 18 months. Japan's mobile industry has integrated QR code software into most mobile camera phones, making the codes as commonplace as Web addresses in Canada," said Micheal LoPatriello, CEO, Luna Development. "Leveraging the flexibility of the Windows Mobile-based platform, we are pleased to be at the forefront of this technology as the first to offer QR code applications to carriers in Canada and the U.S."

The Luna QR solution consists of two QR code reader variations, plus supporting technology, designed to help users create their own QR codes and link them to media resources. Luna Blitzkap and Luna Blitzkap X allow users to read standard QR codes on any camera-equipped devices powered by Windows Mobile 5 or Windows Mobile 6.

Consumers can simply use their Windows Mobile-powered device to take a picture of the QR code and Luna Blitzkap interprets and converts the image into a variety of resources that can include, but are not limited to:

- A link to a website

- A message displayed on the screen of the mobile device

- Contact information

- A phone number that is ready to be dialed

- SMS/MMS text message that is ready to be sent

- A picture, video clip, audio clip or other digital media

Upon commercial availability, businesses that want to integrate the Luna QR solution with their marketing strategies can contact their mobile carrier directly.

"The Luna QR solution is another great example of how third-party developers can take advantage of the Windows Mobile-based platform to create innovative applications that push the user experience well beyond basic mobile services such as e-mail and texting," said Alec Taylor, director, Mobile Communications Business, Microsoft Canada Co. "The familiar Windows®-based development platform creates endless opportunities for developers to create unique applications for phones that run Windows Mobile software, providing Canadian organizations and mobile device users with applications to help meet their needs."

Luna Development will continue to work closely with Microsoft to develop a new generation of services that will be available as a result of the adoption of QR code technology across North America.
