Luxury Institute Survey: High Net-Worth Consumers Rank the Most Prestigious Cruise Lines: Silversea, Seabourn and Lindblad Expeditions

NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwire - March 18, 2008) - High net-worth consumers rated Silversea the most prestigious cruise line in the 2008 Luxury Brand Status Index (LBSI) survey from the independent New York City-based Luxury Institute (www.LuxuryInstitute.com). Respondents who would recommend Silversea say it is "by far the best in cuisine, service and luxury," and comment on the "classy personalized experiences." Seabourn and Lindblad Expeditions came in second and third respectively.

"The luxury cruise line experience has been commoditized over the last few years, which has made it difficult for brands to stand out," said Milton Pedraza, CEO of the Luxury Institute. "Our surveys are conducted with independent panels weighted to reflect national results, and the results are tabulated by external analytical experts. This ensures a level of transparency and objectivity that has earned us the trust of consumers, the industry and the media. We strive continuously to reinforce the trust that allows us to facilitate a constructive dialogue between wealthy consumers and luxury brands via our surveys."

Following are the 20 Cruise Lines that were rated (alphabetical order):

1. Carnival Cruises 12. Oceania Cruises
2. Celebrity Cruises 13. Orient Lines
3. Clipper Cruise Lines 14. Princess Cruises
4. Costa Cruise Lines 15. Regent (formerly Radisson Seven Seas)
5. Crystal Cruises 16. Royal Caribbean

7. Delta Queen Steamboat 18. Silversea Cruise Lines
8. Disney Cruise Lines 19. Viking River Cruises
9. Holland America Line 20. Windstar Cruises
10. Lindblad Expeditions
11. Norwegian Cruise Line

The proprietary Luxury Brand Status Index (LBSI) survey is the only measure of the prestige of leading brands among wealthy Americans. A national sample of 1,400 wealthy American consumers, with an average income of $341K and average net-worth of $3.9 million, was surveyed online. Survey results are weighted to match demographic and net worth profiles of the same audience according to the latest Survey of Consumer Finances from The Federal Reserve.
