Luxury Institute Survey: Wealthy Consumers Rate Ritz-Carlton, Small Luxury Hotels and Mandarin Oriental the Luxury Hotel Brands That Deliver the Best Customer Experience in 2007

NEW YORK, NY -- (MARKET WIRE) -- February 1, 2007 -- Ritz-Carlton edged out Small Luxury Hotels and Mandarin Oriental as the brand that delivers the best customer experience in the 2007 Luxury Hotels & Resorts Luxury Customer Experience Index (LCEI) survey from the independent New York-based Luxury Institute, in an extremely tight race where each brand excelled in different categories.

Brands rated, in alphabetical order, included: Fairmont, Four Seasons, JW Marriott, InterContinental, Le Meridien, Leading Hotels of the World, Loews, Mandarin Oriental, Park Hyatt, Ritz-Carlton, Small Luxury Hotels of the World, St. Regis, W Hotels, and Waldorf Astoria Collection.

"No doubt about it, the Luxury Hotels & Resorts category is one of the most intensely competitive categories in the luxury space," said Milton Pedraza, CEO of the Luxury Institute. "The one-upmanship of these fiercely competitive brands is constant in our independent survey. This year the Institute enhanced the survey to include new metrics and, most importantly, candid comments from consumers as to why they will, and will not, recommend a brand. The comments make fascinating reading since consumers appear far more willing to tell an impartial entity, such as the Luxury Institute, things they would hesitate to say in a brand site or survey conducted by a market research firm."

The proprietary Luxury Customer Experience Index (LCEI) survey is the only measure of the customer experience of leading brands to wealthy Americans. A national sample of wealthy American consumers, with a minimum household income of $150,000, was surveyed online. Survey results are weighted to match demographic and net worth profiles of the same audience according to the latest Survey of Consumer Finances from The Federal Reserve.
